New Delhi:Union Public Services Commission (UPSC) on Friday released the revised calendar 2020 for various examinations and recruitment tests.
Civil Service Examination prelims will be held on October 4, 2020 and the Mains will be held on January 8, 2021.
The new dates have been released on its official website at upsc.gov.in.
The personality tests for Civil Services (Main) Examination, 2019 for the remaining candidates are being resumed from July 20, 2020.
NDA and NA Examination (I), 2020 will be held on September 6, 2020. Examination of IES/ISS 2020 will be held on October 16 while the engineering services main exam will be held on August 9, 2020. Combined Geo-Scientist (Main) Examination, 2020 will be held on August 8.
With the easing of lockdown norms termed Unlock 1, various educational institutes have announced the dates for their entrance exams.

GIPE Entrance dates announced
Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics (GIPE), Pune, has announced the revised dates of the entrance examinations for admission to the Bachelors and Masters Progammes and the last dates for applying for them.

Kochi: With the commencement of online schooling in the state following the outbreak of COVID-19, the anganwadis and libraries will turn classrooms for students who have no access to TV, computers and smartphones. Schools have collected the details of students who are unable to attend the ongoing trial classes. The data collected will be used to arrange appropriate classrooms for those students.
According to the instruction of education department, the facility is arranged under Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan. Anganwadis, libraries, single-teacher schools and primary schools will be used including the smart classrooms.
These facilities will be beneficial to those students who have no facilities to access online classes. All the safety measures including social distance will be ensured.
Samagra Shiksha Kerala Project Director AP Kuttikrishnan said that 2.61 lakh students who lack access to online classes were identified in a survey conducted in May. Incorporating new details along with the data, students will be identified for these facilities.
Also support of local self-government bodies will be sought. A final decision will be taken in this regard after a meeting to be held in association with education department officials, local government body officials and PTA representatives.
Authorities hope from next week, online classes can be made accessible to every student in the state.
Thiruvananthapuram: The results of SSLC examination 2020, conducted in two phases before and during lockdown, will be published in the first week of July. Following this, the results of Higher Secondary Examination will also be published.
The second phase evaluation of SSLC answer sheets began on June 1. However, the process is proceeding in a slow pace, as there is shortage of teachers.
The evaluation will be completed this month. A week's time is required for marks tabulation and coordination. Once it is done, the results will be published by first week of July.
New Delhi: Union Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank has released an alternative academic calendar for Classes 11 and 12, which has been prepared by the NCERT to ensure unhindered studies of the youngsters amid the coronavirus crisis.
New technology and social media have been given priority while drafting the academic calendar, so as to ensure seamless imparting of education. The academic calendar will be issued on a weekly basis.
English, Hindi, Sanskrit and Urdu languages have at present been included in the academic calendar.
"As many students may not be having mobile phones and Internet connections at their homes or may not be active on the social media, teachers have been asked to instruct the students through SMSes and even phone calls. WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, Google Hangout, and Gmail can be used to impart education to the students," the Minister said.
Academic problems faced by students would also be resolved through audio books and radio programmes.
The academic calendar prepared by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) will be broadcast through DTH channels and video conference with the help of SCERT, state education boards, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti.
Thiruvananthapuram: The trial run of online classes for school students in the state will be extended for a week. The cabinet meeting presided by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan took the decision to extend the trial run. The drawbacks of the virtual class will be rectified in the trial period. All classes will be re-telecast on Victers channel.
The state government has decided to conduct the online classes on trial basis for a week from June 1. It was found that over 2 lakh students lack the facilities to attend online classes. The trial run was extended to solve all these drawbacks.
In the trial phase, all classes will have a re-telecast on Victers channels to ensure that no student missed the classes.
Following the commencement of online classes, a student committed suicide unable to access the online classes. It triggered a controversy in the state and the government faced criticism for commencing the online classes without providing basic facilities to all students. The decision to extend the trial run of the online classes was taken after observing the present situation.
Regional Centre for Biotechnology (RCB), Faridabad, Haryana, Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Govt of India and under the auspices of UNESCO, has invited applications for admission to the PhD Programme in Biotechnology.

Thiruvananthappuram: Director of Public Instruction (DPI) K Jeevan Babu stated that online classes arenot an alternative for school education and that it is intended to be part of the education process. He told Mathrubhumi News that currently more than 2 lakh students cannot avail online education system but it will be sorted out with the help of various agencies.
Currently the online classes have been arranged for students studying in state syllabus. Meanwhile, CBSE and ICSE students wil have their classes based on their respective schools. Jeevan Babu also said that educational facilities will be provided to students in Adivasi regions within a week.
He said that it is important to provide access to education in these areas. So those students who cannot avail the current facilities will be identified and necessary action will be taken to provide them educational facilities. This will be carried out with the help of local self government bodies, kudumbashree units and various other agencies after the number of students attending classes in the first phase is calculated.
Reopening of schools will be considered only after July. Till then it is important to keep the students involved in the education process. Currently Kite Victers is available in cable operators. He said that the state has requested the central government to make the channel available in DTH connections as well.
The syllabus for CBSE students is school centric. Currently, it is not possible to accommodate all syllabus in this system, Jeevean Babu stated.
Thiruvananthapuram: Marking the beginning of new academic year, online classes started in the state through the KITE - VICTERS (Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education - Versatile ICT Enabled Resource for Students) channel.
The classes commenced with an introductory message by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday at 8.30 am. The online class for colleges was inaugurated by Minister for Higher Education K T Jaleel by taking history class.
The chief minister made it clear in his message that the teachers should monitor the practicality of online classes and the parents should ensure their children attend classes regularly. He added that COVID transmission will multiply if the schools are reopened in this circumstances and also wished all success to the new study model.
The first class was held at 8.30 am for Plus Two students. Classes of 30 minute duration on each subject will be telecast through Victers channel. Trial telecast will take place in the first week. The classes on Monday will be telecast in the same order on June 8.
The headteachers of the schools are directed to arrange facilities for the children who do not have TV, smartphone or internet, with the help of local bodies, Kudumbashree units and PTIs.

Thiruvananathapuram: Amidst all the anxieties and concerns, school students in Kerala will observe the first day of the academic year on Monday. The online classes will be held through KITE Victers channel. Half an hour long classes will be telecast for each subject. The first class would be for class 12 students, which will be telecast at 8.30 am.
The students and their parents are anxious about how to clear their doubts. The first week of telecasting will be done on a trial basis. Monday's classes will be retelecast in the same order on June 8. The government has instructed principals of schools to arrange necessary arrangements to those students who do not have TV, smart phone or internet connection with the help of local self government institutions, Kudumbashree units and PTAs.
KITE CEO Anwar Sadath said that as part of Hitech program, 1.3 lakh laptops, 7000 projectors and 4545 televisions will be distributed among people who do not have access to this. Minister C Raveendranath stated that there is no cause for any anxiety in connection to this.

Thiruvananthapuram: Online classes for school students in Kerala will begin from Monday. Education Minister C Raveenthranath said that the classes will be broadcasted via Victers channel and that only one class will be held at a time.
So, only one TV will be required even at homes with more than one child. The Minister was replying to audience's questions during a programme in Mathrubhumi News.
Classes will be held on an experimental basis in the first week. Those who do not have access to Victers channel at their home can access it via the internet using smartphones or computers. Classes will be held for students from first standard to class 12. In the first phase, classes will be held only in Malayalam medium.
Classes will be held from 8.30 am to 5.30 am from Monday to Friday. It will be re- telecasted on Saturdays and Sundays.
Teachers will have to ensure that students, who do not have access to these online class facilities, also get to attend the classes.
Minister also said that the Education Department is trying to provide Victers channel connection in those areas which does not get the channel at present. He said that this will be completed in two days. This is why the first week of class will be conducted on a trial basis, he added.
Students can also watch these classes on YouTube. The classes will be uploaded on YouTube as soon as they are completed. The classes will be repeated in the night as well. Each class will be broadcasted at least 3 times a week, the Minister added.
The teachers will also have to watch these classes along with the students. The follow up of these classes with students will be done by the teachers of their respective schools. Teachers can clear the doubts of students through telephone or WhatsApp.
It has been found that more than 2 lakh students will not be able to attend these classes. Arrangements have been made to provide televisions to these students.
C Raveendranath also claimed that lessons for up to one month have been shot and it is ready to be broadcasted. The shooting of lessons for each class is going on. The printing of textbooks got delayed this year. All those text books that have already been printed have been distributed to district hubs, he added.
Applications have been invited for admission to the Vessel Navigator Course (VNC) and Marine Fitter Course (MFC) at Central Institute of Fisheries Nautical and Engineering Training (CIFNET) at Kochi/Chennai/Visakhapatnam Centres of the Institute.
The two years trade courses are conducted with practical training on board fishing vessel out at sea. These Courses have been introduced by DGET, New Delhi under Craftsmen Training Scheme of NCVT. Those completing the course successfully are eligible for CDC.

University Grants Commission (UGC) on behalf of Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has invited applications for National Fellowship for Persons with Disabilities (NFPwD) for the selections years 2018-19 and 2019-2020.
Under the scheme, fellowship will be available to students with disabilities who are covered under The Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995. Thus a person with disability, who wishes to avail the benefits under the Act has to obtain a disability certificate from the medical authority notified for the purpose.
There are 200 slots for each year with provision of reservation of 15% for Scheduled Castes and 7.5% for Scheduled Tribes. The selection will be made purely on merit based on the percentage of marks obtained by the candidates in their Post Graduation (PG) examination, after verification of applications, from amongst the candidates whose applications are received through online mode on the designated portal of UGC. After the selections process, UGC will issue a list containing names of provisionally selected candidates. They will be allowed to join the fellowship only after verification of facts/information furnished by them in their online applications. The candidates who join the fellowship shall not be entitled for any other monetary benefit from Central or State Government or other bodies like UGC.
Eligibility: Any student with disabilities who has been admitted to M.Phil/Ph.D degree and pursuing research through regular and full time mode in a University or academic institution by completing the required formalities for admission in that University or academic institution is eligible for the fellowship. The scheme covers all Universities/ Institutions recognized by the UGC/Government of India. Employees of any University / College/ Educational institution/ Central/ State/ UT Government shall be excluded from availing the fellowship, even if they are on study leave or Extra Ordinary Leave (EOL) to purse the MPhil/ Ph.D course.
The fellowship is payable for a maximum period of 5 years. For the Selection Year 2018-19, it commences on 1 April 2018 or actual date of admission/registration of candidate for M.Phil/Ph.D., whichever is later. For the selection year 2019-20, it commences on 1 April 2019 or actual date of admission/registration of candidate for M.Phil/Ph.D, whichever is later.
Duration of fellowship for M.Phil, will be 2 years or till submission of dissertation whichever is earlier. For M.Phil.+ Ph.D, it will be for 5 years from commencement of Fellowship or till submission of Ph.D. thesis, whichever is earlier and for Ph.D, it will be 5 years or till submission of Ph.D. thesis, whichever is earlier.
Amount of Fellowship: The rate of fellowship will initially be @Rs.25,000/-p.m for two year as JRF and @Rs.28,000/-p.m for remaining tenure as SRF.
Contingency grant for Humanities & Social Sciences including Arts/Fine Arts will be @Rs.10,000/-p.a. for initial two years (JRF) and @Rs.20,500/-p.a. for remaining tenure (SRF). Contingency for Science, Engineering & Technology will be @Rs.12,000/-p.a, initially for two year (JRF) @Rs.25,000/-p.a. for remaining tenure (SRF). Escorts/Reader assistance will be @Rs.2,000/- p.m. in case of those with physical and visual disabilities. HRA will be as per Govt. of India norms.
After two years of fellowship, if the progress in the research work of the awardee is found satisfactory, his/her tenure will be extended for a further period of three years as Senior Research Fellow (SRF). The total period of award of JRF and SRF shall not exceed a period of five years.

Thiruvananthapuram: Amid the coronavirus outbreak, schools in Kerala will start online classes for the new academic year from June 1. Alternative arrangements will be made for students who don't have a TV or smartphone at home. Teachers were directed to identify such students and make necessary arrangements for their classes.
The help of neighbours, libraries and Akshaya centres will be sought to ensure attendance of all students in the virtual classroom.
Teachers will contact students over the phone and give directions before starting each online class.
The teachers are obliged to ensure that no student is missing the class due to lack of basic facilities.
The live classes broadcast through KITE Victers channel will be available on KITE Victers web, mobile app and social media pages. Online classes will be held for students from 1st standard to Plus two. Plus one class is excluded from online classes.

Thiruvananthapuram: Schools in Kerala will not reopen on June 1. The new date for reopening of schools will be announced based on the decisions of the central and state governments.
However, the online classes will begin from June 1 as announced earlier. For this, students or teachers need not appear in schools, decided the Quality Improvement Programme (QIP) committee meeting held under General Education Director on Friday.
The online classes will be broadcasted on Victers channel from 8.30 am to 6 pm. The academic sessions for primary classes will be for half-an-hour, for high school classes it will be for 1 hour and for higher secondary classes it will be for1.5 hours.
The meeting also decided to arrange facilities for online classes for students who have no access to television or internet using libraries and Kudumbashree.
The guidelines regarding online classes will be published soon.
New Delhi: The exam dates for BITS Admission Test (BITSAT) has been announced. The exam for admission to the first year degree programmes at Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) at its campuses at Pilani, Hyderabad and Goa for the year 2020 will be held from August 6 to 10.
The exam was earlier scheduled to be held from May 16 to 26. However, with the COVID-19 lockdown, it was postponed.
