Thiruvananthapuram: General administration secretary K R Jyotilal has informed that Secretariat employees who are taking leave to prepare for Kerala Administrative Service exam scheduled in February, will be disqualified. The decision was made in view of the leaves affecting the functioning of the Secretariat.
More than 50 assistants are on leave to prepare for the exam. This has adversely affected the functioning of secretariat.
Jyotilal also said that trying for another job while is service shows lack of social responsibility. He instructed the employees to cancel leave and rejoin service.
New Delhi: The Annual Status of Education Report, released recently, found that the quality of education among first standard students in government school is too poor. According to the NCERT curriculum first standard students should be able to understand the numbers from 1 to 99. However, only 41.1 percent students are able to understand two digit numbers. Also, 28 percent of the second standard students are unable to understand two digit numbers.
ASER report aims at improving the education standards of students between the age 4 to 8. For this a study was conducted among 36,000 plus students in 4-8 age group in 26 districts of 24 states.
The report also said that the right to education are being denied at schools. According to the law passed in 2009, a six-year-old student should be admitted to first standard. However, 4 in 10 admitted in first standard are below 5 years or above 6 years.
Among the students who are admitted in schools at the age 4-5, 56.8 percent are girls. But as per preschool data, 49.6 percent are boys.
According to the report. 61.1 percent of students between 6 to 8 years admitted to schools are girl students.
Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala cabinet on Wednesday decided to elevate the Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management - Kerala (IIITM-K) to the state's first Digital University. It also decided to recommend the Governor to issue an ordinance in this regard.
The University will be named 'The Kerala University of Digital Sciences Innovation and Technology'.
IIITMK, located at the Technopark campus, here, hitherto was an autonomous educational institution established by Government of Kerala in the year 2000, was a multidisciplinary premier postgraduate institute offering courses in computer science and IT.
Apart from research, the university will concentrate in fields of Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics, Block Chain, Cognitive Sciences, Internet of Things and Augmented Reality.
Five schools will be established under the university – School of Computing, School of Electronics Design and Automation, School of Informatics, School of Digital Bio science and School of Digital Humanities.
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Jodhpur, has invited applications for admission to the Part-Time M.Tech. [Artificial Intelligence (AI)] Programme for Working Professionals.
The programme has been designed to empower working professionals with next-generation AI skill. Courses will be offered online in synchronised mode with relevant offline materials and limited direct contact by faculty of IIT Jodhpur and industry experts.
Eligibility: Applicant should hold B.Tech./B.E in any branch of Engineering/MCA/MSc (Computer Science or Electronics) with at least 60% marks. Applicant should have at least 2 years of professional work experience with sufficient hands-on experience in computer programming.
Selection: Selection will be based on written test and/or interview and/or any other criteria deemed suitable by the admission committee. Prior research exposure and/or industry experience in areas related to AI will be an advantage. The department may set any cut off criteria for short listing applicants.
Classes will be conducted in the evening (e.g. from 5 pm to 7 pm) or on weekends at a convenient time. A student can register for 3 to 4 courses in a semester. There will be two to three lectures every evening, each of duration 50 minutes. There will be 14 weeks of instruction in a semester. There will also be Online Instructions (Lectures will be webcast online) and Contact weeks (there will be mandatory two contact weeks in a semester).
Assessment: Grading will be based on examinations, online quizzes, programming, and theoretical assignments.

Applicant should not have already had significant exposure to UK education or received UK government funding. In SIH 2020, students get an opportunity to work on challenges faced within various Ministries, Departments, Industries, PSUs and NGOs to create world class solutions for some of the top organizations including industries in the world, thus helping the Private sector hire the best minds from across the nation.

There are Software and Hardware editions of SIH. The Software edition will be on 14th & 15th March, 2020 and the Hardware edition from 6th to 10th July, 2020.
Eligibility: Technology students from AICTE/UGC/IIT/NIT/IISER/IIIT/ Government approved educational institutions can participate. Maximum 7 teams (5 teams for Software edition + 2 teams for Hardware edition) per institution are allowed to participate in SIH 2020. Team should mandatorily have 6 students of which at least one should be a female. One f them should be the team leader. All team members should be from same college; no inter-college teams are allowed. However, members from different branches of the same college/ institute are encouraged to form a team.
An Institution has to nominate a Single Point of Contact (SPOC). The Single Point of Contact (SPOC) from every institution should register on www.sih.gov.in. SPOCs must upload their college authorization letter while completing the registration formalities.
The teams can come up with their own ideas against the problem statements and submit them to the nominated faculty or SPOC of their own college.
For short-listing these top 7 teams, every institution is expected to organize internal hackathon before submission of the selected teams on SIH portal. These internal hackathons should be held in the month of December 2019 or January 2020.
Details of internal hackathon (e.g. date, number of student participation, jury member, evaluation process etc.) need to be uploaded on the SIH portal along with few photographs of the internal hackathon. All submission should come from the college SPOC only. Submission of ideas directly from students will not be accepted.
The last date for team nomination and idea submission by College SPOC on SIH portal will be 25th January 2020.
Notification about selected teams will be put up on the SIH portal and will also be sent to their respective nodal centers.

Prizes: There would be a single winning team for every problem statement posted on the portal. The prize money will be given by the collaborating ministry/ industry only if that organization likes the idea of the winning team. However, it is noT mandatory to announce only one winning team against each problem statement. If the collaborating ministry/ industry concludes that none of the ideas are up-to-the-mark, they may not announce any winning team at the finale.
Amount of prize money to be awarded to each winning team is Rs. 100000/- per problem statement. If there is a tie between two or more teams, the final decision of the prize money distribution will be taken by the problem statement creator only and once the decision is made, it won't be changed further.
Ideas submitted under Student Innovation category might have different prize money. Teams are also encouraged to think out-of-the-box and provide creative solutions to themes under 'Students' Innovation' category.

Selected Fellows are expected to work and travel from a home base in the O'Brien suite in the Diederich College of Communication at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Fellows live in Milwaukee. They are expected to Mentor and team with top Marquette journalism students in the pursuit of an investigative or explanatory journalism project.
O'Brien fellows will leave after an academic year with a world-class project on a topic of state, regional, national or international interest.

Selection and Criteria: A proposal to produce a rigorous, multimedia public service journalism project with the potential to have major impact, lead to significant reform, and investigate and explain how individuals and groups can identify creative solutions to social problems is needed. Applicant should have the ability to complete the project during the fellowship using Milwaukee as his/her primary home; the ability to integrate Marquette students as part of a reporting team; the capacity to ensure the greatest possible exposure for the reporting once completed.
An advisory committee consisting of distinguished journalists and Marquette faculty and alumni will interview candidates for O'Brien fellowships in February2020 from a pool of finalists recommended by College of Communication journalism faculty.

YRA award is instituted by the Lady Tata Memorial Trust (LTMT) to annually recognize and reward young Indian scientists below 40 years, who have displayed a potential for high quality research with outstanding track record in biological sciences and potential for high quality research with a deep commitment. They should have been engaged in finding innovative solutions to major problems related to human diseases, blood disorder with special references to leukaemia and for scientific research towards alleviation of human suffering from disease. All areas of Life Sciences and Biotechnology related to human diseases will be covered by this Award.
Eligibility: The award is open to Indian Nationals, residing in India, who are below the age of 40 years as on 31st March 2020. Applicant should possess a Ph.D. degree in any Biological Science or a Master's degree in Medical Sciences, or an equivalent degree in Biotechnology related areas. The applicant must have at least 4 years' professional experience in the specific area after obtaining the above degree.
Applicant must have a regular position in a University/Organization/Institute in India. He/she should be engaged in research and development and have publications arising from research done as an independent investigator in India. The awardee will be eligible for regular research grants through extramural and other research schemes of various S&T agencies of the Government of India.
The applicant should also highlight prestigious award(s) and other recognitions such as award(s) of major academies/societies.
The duration of the award will be initially for three years, extendable further by two years, on a review by the Trust's Experts' Committee. The amount of the Award will be Rs. 25,000/- per month in addition to regular salary from the host institute.In addition, the Young Researcher will receive a contingency grant of Rs.7.00 lakhs per annum for meeting the expenses on consumables, minor equipment, international and domestic travel, manpower and other contingent expenditure to be incurred in connection with the implementation of research project under the award. Applications have been invited by Trinity College, for the Ramanujan Research Studentship to be awarded to a student from India who wishes to undertake a PhD in the broad fields of Pure or Applied Mathematics at the University of Cambridge.
The Studentship is being awarded to commemorate the connection between the renowned Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan and the Trinity College.
Applicant would be required to take, in the first instance, the nine month course leading to the Master of Advanced Study (MASt) in Mathematics at the University. Subject to completion of the MASt with a Distinction and registration for the PhD degree, the Studentship will then be renewed for up to three further years, subject to satisfactory progress.
Exceptionally, a Ramanujan Studentship may be awarded for three years of research leading to the PhD degree without the requirement to study for the MASt.
Eligibility: Applicant should be a citizen of India and should hold a First Class Honours degree or its equivalent from any university or comparable institution in India. Applicant should have applied for admission or already received an offer of admission, for the MASt degree in Mathematics at the University of Cambridge. National Testing Agency (NTA) has invited applications for the notified the National Council for Hotel Management (NCHM) Joint Entrance Examination (NCHM JEE-2020) for admission to the 3 year, 6 semester, B.Sc. Hospitality and Hotel Administration Course for the Academic Year, 2020-21, at the Institute of Hotel Managements (IHMs) affiliated to National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHM&CT). This is a full time, regular, job-oriented program that equips students with knowledge, technical skills, service aptitude and exposure of Hospitality Industry.
B.Sc. Hospitality and Hotel Administration course is imparted at the affiliated 21 Central Institutes of Hotel Management, 25 State Government Institutes of Hotel Management, 1 Public Sector Undertaking and 24 Private Institutes of Hotel Management.
Eligibility: Applicant should have passed the 10+2 system of Senior Secondary examination or its equivalent with English as one of the subjects. Applicant must have passed English as a subject of study (core/elective/functional) in the qualifying examination. Those appearing in 10+2 or equivalent examination can also appear in NCHM JEE 2020 on provisional basis subject to production of proof of having passed the qualifying examination (10+2 or its equivalent) at the time of counselling or at the time of admission or latest by 30 September 2020.
The approved Qualifying Examinations include (i) Plus two level examination in the 10+2 pattern of Senior Secondary education of any recognized Central/State Board, such as Central Board of Secondary Education and Council for Indian School Certificate Examination or State Boards of Secondary Education (ii) Intermediate or two-year Pre-University Examination conducted by a recognized Board/ University (iii) General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level (iv) High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University (v) Any Public School/Board/University Examination in India or in a foreign country recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 pattern of Senior Secondary education (vi) H.S.C. Vocational Examination approved by NCVT and SCVT of concerned state (vii) Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects including English as one of the Subjects, result of which should be available up to 30 September 2020.
Age Limit: Upper age limit is 25 years as on1 July 2020 for General/OBC categories (Born on or after July 1, 1995). For SC/ST applicants, upper age limit is 28 years as on 1 July 2020 (born on or after July 1, 1992).
Physical Fitness: All qualified candidates will have to submit a physical fitness certificate of carrying out practical claims as required in course at the time of admission from a Registered Medical Practitioner in the prescribed format given at Annexure-IV of the Information Bulletin available at https://nchmjee.nta.nic.in/
Test Structure: NCHM JEE will be a Computer Based Test (CBT) to be held from 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. on April 25,2020 (Saturday). The test will have 200 Multiple Choice questions from (i)Numerical Ability and Analytical Aptitude (30 questions) (ii) Reasoning and Logical Deduction (30) (iii) General Knowledge and Current Affairs (30) (iv) English Language (60) and (v) Aptitude for Service Sector (50). Each correct answer will get 4 marks while for each incorrect answer, 1 mark will be deducted.

Application Fee: Application fee for General/ Non Creamy Layer OBC categories is Rs.900/-. For EWS, it is Rs.700/-; for SC/ST/PwD and Transgender categories, Rs.450/-.

The last date for uploading of scanned images of candidate's photograph and signature is also 20 March 2020. Fee has to remitted through Credit/ Debit Card/UPI or PayTM or through Net Banking, by 11.50 p.m. on 21 March 2020.

Consortium of National Law Universities, has invited applications for the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT), the national level entrance exam for admissions to undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) law programmes offered by 22 National Law Universities across the country.
The 5 year Integrated under graduate Honours Programmes offered at the different Universities include BA.LL.B (Hons); BSc.LL.B (Hons), B.Com.LL.B (Hons), BBA.LL.B (Hons) and BSW.LL.B (Hons). The Post Graduate Law programme offered is the one year LL.M.
All National Law Universities (NLUs) offer, B.A.LL.B (Hons) while only few offer the other UG Programmes.

Eligibility: There is no upper age limit for admission to the UG and PG Programmes.
For admission to the UG Programmes, applicant should have passed 10+2 or an equivalent examination with minimum of 45% marks or its equivalent grade in case of candidates belonging to General / OBC / PWD / NRI / PIO / OCI categories and 40% marks or equivalent in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST categories.
For PG courses, applicant should have an LL.B Degree or an equivalent qualification with a minimum of 50% marks/equivalent grade in case of candidates belonging to General/OBC/PWD/NRI/PIO/OCI categories and 45% marks/equivalent grade in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST categories.
Those appearing in the qualifying examination in April/May 2020 are also eligible to apply for UG/PG Programmes. Their admission will be subject to production of evidence of their passing the qualifying examination at the time of admission.
Date & structure of CLAT: CLAT 2020 will be conducted on 10th May, 2020 in the offline mode.
CLAT UG of 2 hours duration will have 150 questions 1 mark each and will have questions from English Language; Current Affairs, including General Knowledge; Legal Reasoning; Logical Reasoning and Quantitative Techniques. For each wrong answer, there will be a Negative Marking of 0.25 mark.
CLAT PG of 2 hours duration carrying a maximum of 150 marks. It will have 100 Multiple-Choice Questions of one mark each. 0.25 Mark will be deducted for each wrong answer. There will also be Subjective Questions carrying 50 Marks with 2 essay type questions each of 25 Marks (800 words per essay) on the topics of law and contemporary issues. The questions will be from Constitutional Law and Other Law Subjects such as Contract, Torts, Criminal Law, International Law, IPR and Jurisprudence. Only candidates who secure 40% (35% in case of SC, ST, and PWD) marks in the objective section will qualify for the evaluation of their answers in the descriptive section.

Answer Keys Uploading will be done on 11th May, 2020. Objections can be filed during 12th May, 2020 and 15th May, 2020. Final answer key will be notified on 18th May, 2020. Final result will be announced on 24th May, 2020.

Thiruvananthapuram: The state government cancelled the essentiality certificate of Varkala SR Medical College. The management association informed the Directorate of Medical Education that they cannot admit students of SR Medical College.
With this, shifting of medical students who got admission here in the year 2016-17 is uncertain. The Directorate of Medical Education authorities said that further discussion in this regard is yet to be decided. The essentiality certificate was cancelled as per the direction of the Ministry of Health after lack of facilities was found in the inspection.
The high court directed to shift the students to other medical colleges. The initial discussions in this regard was held by the directorate and managements. Though PK Das and DM Wayanad colleges were willing to enrol the students, the management association severely opposed the move and demanded that the authorities should give a chance to SR Medical College for arranging better facilities.
Christian Professional College Management Federation also made it clear that they cannot admit the students. They stated that they have facilities to accommodate only 100 students and admitting more students will affect the studies of the existing students.

National Testing Agency (NTA) hadextended the last date for submission of application for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) Under Graduate (UG) 2020, till 11.50 pm on 6 January 2020 (Monday).
Application fee can be remitted till 11.50 pm on 7 January 2020.
The facility for correction of mistakes in the application form will be available from 15 January 2020to 11.50 pm on 31 January 2020.
NEET UG 2020 is for admission to all the medical courses including MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BUMS, BSMS and BHMS. It is also an eligibility test for those desirous of joining medical courses abroad.

New Delhi: Students who complete Plus Two in Arts, Humanities and Commerce streams also will be able to join BSc Nursing course. This has been suggested in the draft of the revised syllabus of BSc Nursing issued by Indian Nursing Council.
At present, only those who study Science stream with biology are allowed admission in the four-year BSc Nursing course.Feedback and complaints can be emailed at [email protected] till January 24.
The Nursing Council recommended the change soon after it decided to stop the three-year General Nursing and Midwifery Course by 2021. According to the draft of revised syllabus for 2020-21 academic year, those who study commerce, humanities and arts also can apply for the course.
The applicants should have total 45 percent marks for the elective subjects in Plus Two exam conducted by CBSE, ICSE, SSCE, HSCE and AISSCE. Also they should obtain pass mark in English subject.
Those who qualify the Plus Two exam conducted by the National Institute of Open School and State Open School also are eligible. Vocational ANM/RANM students also can apply. They should have 50 percent marks in the entrance conducted by the university or state government.
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modis interaction programme "Pariksha Pe Charcha 2020" with a cross section of students and teachers from India and abroad to beat exam stress has been rescheduled to January 20 on account of Pongal, Makar Sankranti, Lohri, Onam and other festivals across the country. The programme was earlier scheduled for January 16, 2020.
The HRD Ministry claimed in a statement that "A lot of excitement and enthusiasm is being seen among the students, teachers and parents to not only participate in the unique event but also to receive valuable tips from the Prime Minister who is keen to ensure that the students take exams in a relaxed atmosphere and do not come under stress, to ensure better results in the long run".
The HRD Ministry in partnership with MyGov has launched a short essay competition for students of classes 9 to 12 for the third edition of Prime Ministers Interaction Programme with school students "Pariksha Pe Charcha 2020".
The First edition of the Interaction Programme with school and college students was held at Talkatora Stadium, New Delhi on February 16, 2018 and the second edition in January 2019.
The third edition of Prime Ministers Interaction Programme with school students was proposed to be held on January 16. "However keeping in view the school holidays in southern States on account of Pongal/Makar Sakranti, it has been decided to hold it on January 20", the ministry said.
